The Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a child holds a significant place in the history of the Order of the Company of Mary Our Lady. This tradition began in 1610 in Bordeaux, France, with St. Jeanne de Lestonnac, the Foundress of the Order of the Company of Mary Our Lady (ODN). She desired to offer the first fruits of her newly established Order to God, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to educate young girls and seeking Mary’s protection so they might emulate her love and faithfulness to God. Now, 414 years later, this tradition has blossomed across nations and is celebrated by various educational communities of the Order worldwide.
NMLC Silver Jubilee Foundation Anniversary
School Year 2024-2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Niña Maria Learning Center, originally located in the heart of Tambo, Cagayan de Oro City. The Center was born out of the Company of Mary Sisters’ commitment to serving the youth and children of the community. Over the past quarter of a century, sisters, teachers, lay partners, pupils, and families have collectively woven a vibrant and enduring history.
This milestone is not merely a celebration of years passed but a recognition of the legacy we have inherited—a legacy shaped by dedication and faith. It also calls on us to enrich this inheritance for the generations yet to come, ensuring the vision of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac continues to thrive.
A New Chapter: NMLC Government Recognition
This year also marks a significant turning point for Niña Maria
Learning Center: its first year as a Government Recognized Elementary School, granted by the Department of Education on September 20, 2024. This recognition strengthens the institution, paving the way for its first group of elementary graduates during this Silver Jubilee Year. It is a moment of pride, as the school’s mission to offer quality education rooted in the charism of the Company of Mary gains further solidity and government accreditation.
Boundless Blessings and the Call to Co-Creation
As we celebrate “414, 25, and 1,” we reflect on God’s immeasurable generosity. In her circular to the Company of Mary sisters, schools, and ministries worldwide, Mother General Rita Calvo ODN emphasized the heart of this celebration: the acknowledgment that we are co-creators with God in building a world envisioned by Him. St. Jeanne de Lestonnac understood this deeply, which inspired her to offer the first fruits of her Order to the Lord—a gesture that continues to resonate in this year’s celebrations.
On this year’s Feast of the Child Mary, we give thanks for the abundant blessings God has bestowed upon us. Together with Mary, we present our children, ourselves, and our shared vision for Niña Maria Learning Center. As we honor this legacy, we are reminded that God continues to work wonders through our littleness and faith.
With hearts full of gratitude and hope, we celebrate, confident in the promise of enriching the lives of the youth and children who walk through the doors of Niña Maria Learning Center today and in the years to come.
