On
September 30, 2024, Niña Maria Learning Center proudly held its inaugural
Science Congress, marking a significant milestone with the theme, “Toward a
Shared Vision: Exploring the Future for a Better Tomorrow.” This event was not
just an exhibit of scientific inquiry but a true celebration of curiosity,
collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer led by John Matthew Luis A. Reyes of Grade 6–Maisonneuve, followed by a warm Welcome Remarks from Dr. Flerida T. Nery, the esteemed School Principal, whose words inspired everyone to embrace the limitless possibilities that science offers.
In
an effort to enrich the Congress with expert insights, NMLC invited a
distinguished panel of judges from neighboring institutions. The board included
Ms. Princess O. Sabandal, a Grade 5 Science Teacher from Divine Love School,
Mr. Jhon Steave B. Bati-on, Science Coordinator from Sacred Heart of Jesus
Montessori, and Ms. Fritzie Rapadas, LPT from Xavier University, who served as
the chairperson. Each judge brought with them a wealth of experience, further
elevating the standard of the event.
The
day unfolded with an open exhibit of the Science Investigatory Projects from
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, showcasing a variety of innovative concepts from six
participating groups—three from Grade 5 and three from Grade 6. This segment
allowed students and guests to delve into the creative minds of the young
scientists as they shared their findings and methodologies.
In
the afternoon, the highlight of the Congress took place: the formal
presentations of each group’s investigatory project. As each team faced the
panel, the atmosphere was thick with anticipation and excitement. The
questions from the judges challenged the students’ knowledge and understanding,
but each presenter rose to the occasion, confidently defending their research
with both intelligence and poise. For many, this was the most thrilling and
nerve-wracking moment of the day, but it also served as a testament to the
students’ dedication and hard work.
The
event culminated with the much-awaited announcement of winners. Group 3 of
Grade 6, led by Maxine Aleah F. Ubalde, captured the top prize with their
project, “MGB’s Eco-Friendly Paper Bags and Face Masks Made Out of Musa
Acuminata (Banana Pseudostem).” Second place was awarded to Enzo Gabriel B.
Sanchez’s group, whose project, “The Effectiveness of Combining Lemongrass,
Oregano, and Ginger Extracts as a Natural Mosquito Repellent,” showcased an
ingenious approach to natural solutions. Finally, third place went to Awyne
Skye G. Balaba’s group from Grade 5 – Richelet, who crafted mini-fans from
upcycled materials—a true example of sustainability in action.
Through the Science Congress, NMLC celebrated not only the achievements of its young scientists but also the promise they hold as future leaders in scientific innovation. It was a day filled with learning, excitement, and inspiration—a remarkable event that left an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of all who attended.
