Journey of Words: Niña Maria Learning Center Shines at the Division Schools Press Conference

Excitement filled the air as the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) opened its doors once again, bringing together young journalists eager to showcase their skills in writing, editing, and storytelling. Among proud participants was Awyne Skye G. Balaba from Niña Maria Learning Center, guided by her supportive coach, Teacher Kaye C. Villarico.

The journey began on October 15, 2025, when the registration started at 8:00 a.m. Coach Kaye carefully brought all the necessary requirements such as the medical certificate, parent’s consent, and most importantly, the school paper. These were prepared earlier with assistance of Sister Maria Lilian S. Espedilla and the strong support of the school principal, Dr. Maria Flerida T. Nery, who helped ensure everything was ready for the big event. Behind this preparation was also the unwavering support of Awyne’s parents, who continuously motivated and encouraged her best.

After submitting all the requirements, the coaches waited for the scheduled meeting at 1:00 p.m., which was later moved to 3:00 p.m. Despite the long wait, all coaches -including those from other schools – remained patient and cooperative.

The next day, October 16, 2025, officially marked the start of the DSPC. The program opened with an Opening Prayer, the Lupang Hinirang, and the Golden Friendship Song, showing pride as true Kagay-anons. This was followed by an Opening Remarks and the Journalists’ Pledge. Afterward, the coaches accompanied their journalists to their assigned classrooms, where they were given 15 minutes to take pictures before heading to the waiting area.
Sister Maria Lilian S. Espedilla also took the time to visit and encouraged the Niña Maria Learning Center young journalist. Inside the waiting area, the atmosphere was filled with both excitement and nervousness. Coaches couldn’t help but wonder how their students could handle their topics well. After the contest, Coach Kaye and Awyne shared a well-deserved lunch at Jollibee before returning for further announcements.

On October 17, 2025, everyone eagerly awaited the most anticipated part – the announcement of the Top 3 winners who can join the Regional Schools Press Conference. Although Awyne Skye G. Balaba did not make it to Top 3, her coach and the entire Niña Maria Learning Center family, led by Dr. Maria Flerida T. Nery, remained extremely proud of her. Reaching the Division level itself was already a great honor and remarkable achievement.
